Biography

 

• Often confused with Johannes Teutonicus, who was a Dominican, General of the order and Bishop of Bosnia and Johannes Teutonicus, who authored the Summa Confessorum.
• Probably identical with Magister Johannes Zemeke.
• Studied and taught in Bologna; Studied Roman Law under Azo.
• Provost at St. Simeon and Juda in Gosla; later at St. Stephan in Halberstadt.
• Some writers speak of an excommunication under Clement IV. due to his refusal on tithes for a crusade.
• Death: 25.04.1245.

Activities as Canonist

• Important Glossator.
• Before the 4^th Lateran Council 1215: Apparatus ad decretum (had John of Faenza, Bazianus, Laurentius, Huguccio, Melendus, Gandulphus, Cardinalis, Rufinus, Petrus Hispanus, Paucapalea and Stephen of Tournai in mind).
• Probably after 1218: Apparatus to the Compilatio IV.
