Biography
- Born around 1140/50 in Pisa.
- Studied in Bologna.
- Probably taught by Gandulphus and John Faventinus.
- Taught in Bologna at the Monastery of St. Felix and Nabor.
- 1190: Bishop of Ferrara.
- Death: 30.04.1210 in Ferrara.
Activities as Canonist
- Teacher of Pope Innocent III.
- Wrote: Liber Derivatiorum (? challenged by Walter Müller).
- ca.1188-1190: finished a Summa in Decretum with the one of John Faventinus, but also the one of Rufinus, Stephen of Tournai, Paucapalea as well as the Gloss of Cardinalis, Albertus, Gandulphus, Bazianus and Simon in mind. Probably the most universal work of Canon Law in the 12th century.
