Raimundus de Arenis
Biography
- Born as Raimundus de Arensis in Nîmes.
- was probably Cardinal Gratian, but called Cardinalis to avoid confusion with Gratian, the author of the Decretum.
- studied under Bulgarus together with Stephen of Tournai in Bologna.
- 1159: Belonged to the electors of Antipope Victor; later: reconciliation with Pope Alexander III.
- since 21st March 1168, he appears as S.E.E. subdiaconus et notarius in papal bulls.
- Part of an embassy to King Henry II of England.
- Since 1st October 1176 he appears as Card. Diaconus tit. SS. Cosmae et Damiani.
- Death: Probably after 28th May 1197.

- He wrote a Gloss (probably in the early 1160’s) that might have existed as an independent apparatus to the Decretum
